Product Packaging Design-Tutorial in Photoshop and Illustrator

Hi There, welcome to the Grapocean graphic design tutorial. Today we will discuss the design process, how to make chip packaging using Adobe Photoshop. I brought this tutorial based on basic packaging design knowledge. This is my little effort for beginning Level designers. So without further talk, let's start the tutorial. There are some materials you might need to design this packaging.

Important Information About This Tutorial-

• Fonts used in this tutorial - (Breeze Personal Use Font, Bebas, Arial)

As always, first, open up your Photoshop program by double-clicking on its thumbnail. (Note: Make sure you have an updated version of adobe photoshop on your computer). After opening the adobe photoshop program, click on File>New from the top menu bar. Or click on Create New to create a new document or directly press Ctrl+N from the computer keyboard to open the new document dialog box. When the design artboard dialog box is visible, put in preset details "Potato Packaging Design" and filesize the width 1818px height 2595px. And make the Resolution 300px and check you select the CMYK color mode box. Then click on Create.

After the design artboard is visible, go to File>Open and bring all the tutorial stock images from computer storage. No, we will remove the unwanted white background from the red soldier, chip images to delete the white background of each image using the Magic Wand Tool, and quickly select the white area. After selection, the white area unlocks the layer by clicking on the layer right side lock icon. Later on, press Delete from the keyboard to erase the white background. 

To more smoothly delete the white background, you can use the Pen Tool also. Click on the pen tool and make a path around the red soldier and chip. Then press Ctrl+Enter to make the selection according to the pen tool path. Then unlock the layer and press delete. Actually, there are a few ways to remove the white background. I tell here two common ways to remove the background. 

After removing the white background from the images, bring those images one by one to the main design artboard. As well, the black texture background. To do this, drag and drop the transparent pictures on the main design artboard. 

Now activate the black texture background layer with one click on the layer thumbnail. And press Ctrl+T to transform its size. When you resize the image, make sure it covers the total design artboard. After that, make a layer mask of black texture image by clicking on the layer mask icon. Then click on the Gradient Tool from the Photoshop sidebar and select one of the transparent style gradients. Now click on the layer mask thumbnail and drag the mouse down to the upper to fade the texture image. Now we have to send back the black texture background layer at the bottom of all layers (hold Ctrl+Shift and press [ to send the layer bottom). Now resize the other red soldier and chip image conveniently. So it looks perfect for the design.

In this part of this tutorial, we will cover the fade area with yellow color. To perform this, let's make a copy of the default white background layer by dragging the background layer under the layer-making icon or pressing Ctrl+J from your keyboard. Now double click on the copied white layer to open its blending option properties. From there, check the color overlay box. And then click on the color box, and pick a yellow color from the color palette and then press Ok.

In this step, you will need to make a custom text highlight shape. So we could highlight the subheading text. To save time, I drag and drop the illustrator's previously made highlight shape to photoshop. I prefer to make this shape your own. This text highlighting shape is a ai shape. That is why I edit the shape color on adobe illustrator. However, you can make the shape in photoshop also. 

After changing the color of that shape, drag and drop the shape on the photoshop design artboard. When you drag and drop the shape on photoshop. Then it will make a smart object layer automatically in photoshop. Now go to this smart object layer's Blending Option, and checkmark Stroke, and make the stroke color white takes less than 5px border. After that, click on the Type tool and type "Great Test You Ever Have" after type click on the Create warped text icon on the top then you will find warped properties from there, click Flag > Horizontal and decrease Bent to 10%. Now click on the Character select TT icon to make the text Block Letters.

That is the last step of this tutorial. In this part, we will type the main title "Potato Chips" using the Type tool, and after that, we will apply some effect on it so this it's highlighted. So click on the type tool and type your design title. When the text layer has been created in the layer panel, double click on the text layer to open its Layer Style Window. From there, check the Gradient Overlay box and select a golden color gradient from the gradient box. If you did not find the golden color gradient. You can make it your own by changing the gradient color stops. Pick some color that matches with golden. 

Now click on Bevel & Emboss check box. In the Bevel & Emboss structure, make the Style Inner Bevel, Technique Smooth make the Depth 157%, Direction Up, Make the direction Size 8 Px. In the shedding part of the inner bevel, Make the Angle -56° and checkmark the "Use Global Light" box. Now keep the default Gloss Contour, and make the Highlight Mode Screen and pick the highlight color "White" and the opacity 50%. Now make the Shedding Mode Multiply, and make its color black, and the opacity of the shedding mode should be 50% also. Now check the other two sub-menus of Bevel & Emboss > Contour and Texture. In the texture panel, select a dots texture. After setup, all the settings click Ok. To apply this beautiful effect to the text.
